The Story

Jeroen joined DNV as a Jr. IT Auditor after completing his studies, despite having little prior IT knowledge or work experience. With a strong eagerness to learn, he is now successfully navigating his career path at DNV. Jeroen shares insights into his typical workweek, how he balances work and studies, and his experiences at DNV.

Essential Skills and Becoming a Registered IT Auditor

"Half of my time is spent on-site, interviewing clients and assessing their IT systems and processes," Jeroen explains. "The other half, I'm at home or in the office, compiling my findings. Fridays are reserved for classes. DNV supports my studies to achieve the RE (Registered IT Auditor) title and complete my Master’s degree. It’s a perfect mix of a great job, ongoing practical learning, and the pursuit of new certifications."

"In IT auditing, you learn a lot on the job. For any product or service that collects data, robust information security is crucial. Our role as IT auditors isn't to give advice; it’s to assess if systems and processes are reliable and how their quality can be enhanced. It’s rewarding to see the progress when you revisit a client."

"Coming into this role without IT knowledge wasn't a barrier. If you are analytical and eager to learn, you can excel. Curiosity and strong interpersonal skills are vital, as the role involves interacting with a variety of clients.”

"My goal is to grow into a coordinating role, which is a realistic progression at DNV. Here, you can build your career at your own pace, without undue pressure. Currently, my focus is on earning my RE title and Master's degree."

"Our team is tight-knit, supporting each other's professional growth. Although we work for different clients and don't see each other daily, we catch up after work and share valuable insights. The camaraderie is fantastic—last summer, a few colleagues and I visited Edinburgh during our free time."
