A sense of belonging from day one
Marine Engineer Jiang Hongli joined DNV five months ago and has been impressed with the thorough onboarding process and the sense of belonging he feels at the company.
Jiang’s first impression of DNV was a news article titled ‘DNV use remotely operated vehicles to complete the world’s first underwater remote survey’. “As a graduate from a local maritime university in China, I always paid attention to the maritime and shipping events going on in the world and this article served as a reference for my graduation thesis. Ultimately it then led me to becoming a marine engineer with the company.
“I was really excited to join DNV, a place can continuously learn, grow and contribute to the shipping industry, which was my aspiration,” says Jiang. “It lived up to my expectations. I was amazed at the way the company trained new surveyors. Almost every colleague cares about your progress and questions raised in daily work to enabled new joiners like me to facilitate smooth onboarding and integration into the team. And experienced surveyors provide a strict standard ensuring we develop good habits and understanding at the preliminary stage of our career. It was a tough but exciting experience.”
Since joining the organization, Jiang feels a sense of pride and confidence. “At DNV you have opportunities to participate in every aspect of the industry transformation and use new technologies.”
A sense of belonging
Jiang believes that one of the most impressive things about DNV is the culture and DEI. “I have a story that illustrates this perfectly,” he says. “During a naming ceremony, our area manager, invited someone to take a picture. She specifically pointed out that it’s for our whole team not just the project manager. And I was surprised that she included a new joiner as a teammate. DEI is clearly not just a policy – it is embedded into our whole working process. Even when we have different backgrounds, experiences and genders, we value and respect each other. DNV offers an inclusive culture where employees can grow, feel valued and have a sense of belonging.”
